We do not imagine this site ever being frozen. Should new pictures or information become available, we will always want to add them. As proof of that, in 2024, six years after we declared this site as done, we were contacted by Mike Jewett, Rod Jewett, and Tom James who provided us with information and pictures about the Modesto Roadmen of the 1970s, something that had been sorely lacking from this site.
What's Coming
- The addition of new material about the Modesto Roadmen of the 1970s is in progress. To be added are a number of newspaper articles and pictures of souvenirs and the History page is being rewritten.
- We are aware that the site needs a lot of polishing. That will come.
- Any errors noticed or reported will be corrected.
- If any new pictures turn up, they will be added.
What's New as of May 18, 2025
- A new page was added to the photographs with pictures from the 1970s.
- The section on the 1970s in the History of the Modesto Roadmen page was completely rewritten.
What's New as of June 1, 2018
- The Site is Done! It still needs lots of polishing, we will be correcting errors as they turn up, and if new pictures appear, we will certainly add them, but everything on our To Do list has been incorporated.
- A new major category under Table of Contents on the Home Page: Newsletters, Newspaper Articles, and Other Souvenirs. A must-see part of the site! (Also linked from the Photos page. A lot of this new material came from John Campopiano who first displayed it at the 2016 Modesto Roadmen Reunion, and then made it available for scanning and photography so it could be included on the site.)
- Ten editions of the Modesto Roadmen newsletter, chock full of history.
- Two additional special announcements.
- A copy of the 1968 ABL of A racing schedule for Northern California.
- Two humorous (if raunchy) documents; a mock newsletter article and a letter.
- Programs from the 1969 Great Western Bicycle Rally and from the 1968 and 1969 runnings of the Tour de Graceada.
- Race Posters, T-Shirts, Patches, Receipts of Historic Interest, Membership cards, Race Medals and Numbers, fourteen items in all, all concerning the Modesto Roadmen.
- A significant update to the History of the Modesto Roadmen page and its associated sub-pages, including the addition of a new page listing all the member names we can remember. Much of this was possible because of the availability of more issues of the Modesto Roadmen Newsletter as well as other documents, including Berkeley Wheelmen Newsletters containing results of races in which Modesto Roadmen participated.

December, 2015
- At long last, the mystery of the San Gregorio bicycle race(s) has been resolved! It was one two-day bicycle race in the San Gregorio area named the Tour Del Mar. It was a unique event in cycling history, with an accompanying rock concert featuring (among others) The Grateful Dead! Much new information on the event has been added, and the new page (with associated pictures) is named the June 1966 Tour Del Mar.
- A page and pictures for the July 1966 Redwood City Bike Race has been added.
- A page and pictures for a July 1967 training ride was added
- A page has been added where each of the pictures used in the slide show above is shown by itself with a caption.
- A seventh slide was added to the slide show.
- The What's Coming section on the Site Progress page now has a much more detailed list of what you can expect to see on future versions of this site.
November, 2014
- Two more Modesto Roadmen made their voices heard, Tom Woods and Roger Farschon! Updates reflecting their memories were added at sites too numerous to cite.
- I replaced the single picture at the top of this home page with a slide show.
- What was one bicycle race is now two! See the Pictures page for Bike Race, San Gregorio, 1965 and Bike Race, San Gregorio, 1966. Besides realizing what we thought was one race was pictures from two races mixed together, we increased the total number of pictures from 6 to 18. [NB: In the December 2015 update, this was made back into one page describing what we now know to have been a two-day stage race, so links to the non-existent pages have been removed.]
July, 2014
- Added a page for the 1967 Mountain Loop.
- Added a page and 22 pictures for the 1968 Mountain Loop.
